A documentation of bathroom stall graffiti on the Oberlin College campus
French philosopher Michel Foucault said that the things we feel the need to confess speak volumes about who we are. The modern day tradition of writing thoughts on the walls of restroom stalls illustrates perfectly the duality of the confession- it is both public and private, left for all to see by an anonymous person.
This tumblr is an investigation into the things written by Oberlin College students, found in academic buildings, dorms, and sites close to the campus.
Photos taken (unless otherwise noted) and compiled by Kayley Porterfield, Winter Term 2011, Oberlin College.
Thank you to all of the anonymous graffiti writers.
